Objective: To increase employee awareness of on-the-job safety procedures and reduce accidents and injury.
Strategy and Execution:Initial Security has approximately 14,000 security officers throughout North America in five major regions and 48 branch offices. Reducing injuries on the job is of paramount importance to the company for a variety of reasons.
You Name It Specialties Safety specialists worked with HR staff to devise a program that would reward employees for accumulated on-the-job hours without an accident.
The Safety Incentive program has 6 levels with level 6 being the highest. Each level has a set of "prizes" which are attractive and useful items decorated with the Initial Security logo. Employees accumulate points for "safe hours" and can trade the points for prizes once they reach the minimum number of hours to qualify for Level 1.
Products were chosen based on price points and perceived retail value. A survey of employees helped determine the product mix.
Results: On the job accidents resulting in injury fell 12% in the first year of the program and 19% in the second year. The program is now in it's third year and indications are favorable for an even greater improvement.
